Dear Tabernacle Family,
A value we have as families of The Tabernacle has always been, and will always be, taking care of those in need. Whether it’s in Buffalo, the Philippines, Israel, or other places, we’ve always made feeding those in need a priority at the Tabernacle. We’ve always made it Glocal (Global and Local) too.
What does the Bible say about feeding the poor?
Jesus, our rescuer and leader, says that when we feed the poor and welcome the stranger into our midst, we are not just doing it onto that person we are literally doing it to Jesus. Jesus elevates all people, especially those in need to His level. Wow! He’s so awesome.
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” – Matthew 25:35
The Word tells us that blessing and curses are connected to our care of the poor and needy. When we give to the poor we open up blessing in our lives and secure for ourselves God’s care towards us. He promises we will never lack or want. He’s a good Shepherd.
“Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.” – Proverbs 28:27
Right here on campus through our food pantry, we help families in need of regular and emergency assistance. During holidays, we extend our reach to try and be even more generous during the Holiday Seasons. Personally, Gabi and I find it so meaningful connecting with the various ways we help at The Tab. We sometimes get opportunities to help and volunteer physically but we always make opportunities to help financially.
I’m so glad I’m part of a ministry and family that value serving those in need as Jesus would have us do.
