Tab Blog: A People Devoted

By August 26, 2019Uncategorized

“They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers.”

Acts 2:42 The Message

I love how Eugene Peterson translated this verse as it embodies my heart’s desire for the Tabernacle, for Orchard Park, for Buffalo, for New York, and for our nation. I pray, day and night, that we would be a people devoted to the teachings of our Father God. When we live life with one another, breaking bread and praying with each other, we learn how to better love our brother and sister. We all come from different places, cultures and backgrounds. Jesus’ own disciples were very different from one another. From humble fishermen to an affluent tax collector, they came together, lived life together, broke bread together, prayed together, and loved one another. God has created each and everyone of us in His Image, Imago Dei. Let us find out what giftings and callings we each have been given and celebrate them together.

Today is our All-Church Picnic and it is a great day to put this verse into action. We have an opportunity to celebrate with each other over a delicious meal. We have an opportunity to commit our lives to one another. I encourage you to find yourself in this passage of scripture and become a part of the living and active component of the Word of God. As we gather together today after service, find someone and begin to live life together. As Bishop Robert has taught us, let us be slow to speak and eager to listen.
As we join together in celebration of our church and our community let us ponder the words of Coretta Scott King, “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”

With love and devotion,
Joshua Ogle
